AWS Cloud Innovation Day Hetauda

Cloud Innovation Day is the workshop format OCU Academy takes out to campuses, and this one was held in Hetauda, in a hall filled with participants working through the material on their own machines.

The day introduces cloud computing as it is actually used: what AWS is underneath the marketing, how it is laid out across regions and availability zones, the service families for compute, storage, networking and databases, and the parts that decide what a system costs and who is responsible for securing it. Running it as a laptop-open session rather than a lecture is the point. Participants provision and break things themselves, which is the difference between having seen a console and being able to use one.

Hetauda is one of the places this matters most. Students there sit the same examinations and apply for the same jobs as students in Kathmandu, but the industry sessions have historically stayed in the capital. Holding the workshop locally takes travel out of the decision about who gets to attend.
