AWS Cloud Connect Butwal was a community day rather than a class. Registration opened in the yard, the hall filled with a mix of students and people already working in technology, and the day ran on talks and conversation instead of a syllabus.
Holding it in Butwal was the point. Cloud events in Nepal cluster in Kathmandu, which quietly makes attendance a question of who can afford to travel. Running the day in Lumbini Province put it within reach of the colleges and small firms there, and the room that turned up was noticeably broader than a campus audience — undergraduates alongside practitioners a decade into their careers.
What a format like this offers students is different from what a workshop offers. They hear how practitioners describe their own work, which problems those people are actually paid to solve, and what the market for cloud skills looks like from inside it — none of which appears in a curriculum. It also runs in the other direction: the day gives OCU Academy a reading of what employers in the region are asking for, and the Academic Alliance programmes are shaped around exactly that.
